JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two rockets fired from Gaza at southern Israel were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system.
The rockets fired Tuesday evening were intercepted near Ashkelon. Shrapnel was spread across the area, according to reports. A third rocket is believed to have fallen in Gaza.
A rocket intercepted by Iron Dome is about to hit a populated area, Israeli army spokesman Peter Lerner said in a tweet.
More than 20 rockets have been fired at Israel since three Israeli teens were abducted from a junction in Gush Etzion south of Jerusalem 12 days ago. Tuesday was the fourth time that Iron Dome has intercepted rockets in that period.
