JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is forming an American-style alumni network.

The university said in a statement that is the first Israeli university to reach out to former students through an alumni networking platform.

The university also is looking to register former American alumni to join HUJIconnect.com, and said it is planning to establish an American Friends of Hebrew University alumni networking platform.

It said it hopes the alumni network will provide a source for mentoring, jobs and funding for current Hebrew University students.

Some 4,000 alumni have already signed up, approximately half have offered to be mentors to students, and 300 jobs have been posted so far, according to Dr. Shlomit Shulov Barkan, Hebrew University’s Director of Alumni Relations.
