Hamas cell arrested for attacks on main road

JERUSALEM (JTA) — At least 15 members of a Hamas terror cell were arrested for firebombing and rock attacks on a major Jerusalem-Tel Aviv road.

The arrests over several weeks were announced on Monday by the Shin Bet security service, which worked in conjunction with the Israel Defense Forces and Israel Police, according to Israeli news reports.

The attacks took place on Route 443. The terror cell reportedly had planned to detonate a roadside bomb against military vehicles that travel there. About 10 miles of the road runs through the West Bank.

Earlier this month, the Shin Bet issued a directive banning government ministers from traveling on the road, citing extreme danger.
