Gaza rocket slams into southern Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A rocket fired from Gaza slammed into southern Israel for the second time over the weekend.

The rocket landed shortly after midnight Sunday near a community in the Eshkol Regional Council near the Gaza border. The Color Red alert awakened the residents of several nearby towns before the rocket hit.

Two rockets fell in the same area late on Thursday night, landing in open areas.

The Sunday morning attack came just hours before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced at the weekly Cabinet meeting that two long-range Grad missiles fired on Eilat last week were launched from the Sinai Peninsula by members of a terrorist cell from Gaza.

“This is unacceptable. We will exact a price for this; this has been our consistent policy for the past four years and it will serve us here as well,” Netanyahu told Israeli lawmakers on Sunday.
