JERUSALEM (JTA) — Four people were shot dead at a Bank Hapoalim branch in Beersheba when a gunman opened fire hours after reportedly being denied a loan.
Three men and a woman were killed in Monday’s attack, and several others were injured. The shooter, who according to reports was a former captain in the Israel Border Police, killed himself during a standoff with police.
A woman he had held hostage was released unharmed after an hour.
The shooter, identified as a 40-year-old Jewish resident of Beersheba, reportedly shouted “robbery” before the attack. He also may have been denied money from the ATM before entering the bank, according to reports.
