Former JTA top editor to run Hadassah Magazine

NEW YORK (JTA) — Former JTA Editor-in-Chief Lisa Hostein has been named executive editor of Hadassah Magazine.

Hostein, who starts on Nov. 16, replaces Alan M. Tigay, who is retiring after 35 years in the position.

Hostein will be the first woman to lead the magazine, which is published by the New York-based Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

She served as executive editor of Philadelphia’s Jewish Exponent from 2009 until June 2015 and also managed its sister publication Inside Magazine, in addition to a dozen special sections every year.

Hostein and her entire staff were laid off when the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, which owned the newspaper, decided to outsource its production to Mid-Atlantic Media, a Baltimore-area company.

Hostein has received journalism awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, American Jewish Press Association and others.

She was JTA’s editor in chief for nearly 15 years, during which time she received the Award for Distinguished Service to Jewish Journalism from the American Jewish Press Association.

Hadassah Magazine, which recently celebrated its centennial, covers political, cultural and social issues that affect its readership. The magazine publishes six issues annually along with more frequent online content and has won over 350 awards for journalistic excellence.
