JERUSALEM (JTA) — The former northern West Bank Jewish settlement of Homesh was turned over to the Palestinian Authority.

The handover occurred on Thursday morning, some two weeks after Israel’s attorney general ruled the land should be turned over to Palestinians to farm.

Since the 2005 disengagement from Gaza, Homesh has been a closed military zone. Jewish activists, however, have maintained a presence on the site, including running a yeshiva there.

Homesh was one of four northern West Bank settlements to be evacuated at the same time as the 21 settlements in Gush Katif.

Following the handover, Palestinian men at the site waved Palestine Liberation Organization flags and signs with anti-Jewish and anti-Israel images on them, Israel National News reported.

Israelis are not allowed to enter the site.
