Five more Yitzhar settlers arrested following attack on police

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Five more residents of the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar were arrested in connection with an attack on Israeli security services and a guard post.

With Thursday’s arrests, eight Yitzhar residents have been arrested in the wake of the clash two days earlier between the security forces and settlers. One teen was arrested on Wednesday for throwing rocks at a police patrol in Yitzhar.

In Tuesday’s incident, sparked by the razing of illegal structures at the settlement, six Israeli Border Police officers and two settlers were injured. An Israel Defense Forces guard post also was destroyed.

There have been an increasing number of attacks on security forces in the West Bank by settlers in recent weeks, according to the IDF.

The arrests Thursday were a joint operation of Israel Police and Border Police forces; the five suspects were taken in for questioning.
