Earthquake shakes northern Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) — No injuries or damage were reported from an earthquake that hit northern Israel.

Monday afternoon’s quake, which was centered just north of the Sea of Galilee, measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.

In October, five earthquakes of the same general magnitude were felt in the Upper Galilee. At the time, instructions on earthquake preparedness were updated and publicized to Israelis on order of the prime minister.

It is unclear what the series of temblors means for future earthquakes.

Hundreds of people died and were injured in a 6.2 magnitude quake in 1927 that centered on the Dead Sea.
