JERUSALEM (JTA) — Gravestones were vandalized in a Christian Orthodox cemetery in Jaffa in an apparent price tag attack.

The words “revenge” and “price tag,” as well as Stars of David, were spray painted on several headstones in the cemetery.

Similar spray-painted words were found on a nearby apartment building, home to Arab-Israeli Tel Aviv District Court Judge Khaled Kaboub, the Jerusalem Post reported.

“Price tag” refers to the strategy that extremist settlers and their supporters have adopted to exact retribution for settlement freezes and demolitions or Palestinian attacks on Jews. Several price tag attacks in recent months also have targeted Christian sites, however.

Tension has grown in recent years between Jews and Muslims in Jaffa, amid accusations of attempts to “Judaize” the city, which reportedly is more than one-third Arab-Israeli.
