Center for Jewish History receives $1.5 million for new division

NEW YORK (JTA) — The Center for Jewish History will use a $1.5 million grant from The Lillian Goldman Charitable Trust to establish a reference services division.
The grant, which was announced Tuesday, will be used to create the Lillian Goldman Reference Services alongside the New York center’s reading room, also named for Goldman, and to facilitate research by students, teachers and other patrona.
“The Lillian Goldman Reference Services Division will be integral to illuminating history for visitors to the center,” said Michael Glickman, the center’s COO.
Changes to the space will include improvements to aid in the integration of digital tools for research.
Glickman said the grant will enable the center “to continue advancing the ways in which libraries and learning institutions can best serve 21st-century publics.”
The center’s reading room serves as a gateway for the archival and library collections of five partner organizations: the American Jewish Historical Society, the American Sephardi Federation, the Leo Baeck Institute, the Yeshiva University Museum and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
