(JTA) — Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Iran at the invitation of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Abbas was invited to attend the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, to be held in Tehran at the end of August. The invitation was delivered for Ahmadinejad by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during a meeting with Abbas in Jordan, according to reports.

Abbas reportedly accepted the invitation.

Ahmadinejad reportedly also invited Egypt’s new president, Mohammed Morsi, who heads the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, to visit Tehran for the summit. Iran will become head of the Non-Aligned Movement for the next three years during the Tehran summit.

Meanwhile, President Obama has invited Morsi to visit the United States in September, an Egyptian official said Sunday, according to reports.

“President Obama extended an invitation to President Morsi to visit the United States when he attends the U.N. General Assembly in September,” Egyptian aide Yasser Ali said Sunday after Morsi met U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in Cairo, Reuters reported.
