THROWBACK THURSDAY • On September 28, 1980, members of “Children of the Holocaust” and the Jewish Defense League burned actress Vanessa Redgrave in effigy outside the CBS television studios in Los Angeles. The participants were protesting the casting of Redgrave, an avid supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organization, as a Jewish survivor of a Nazi death camp in the television film “Playing For Time.” The film was initially banned in Israel because of her pro-Palestinian position.
