The decade in advertising: the 1960’s and the 1970’s

Whether tracking fashion trends or marking the opening of St. Louis institutions, advertising is more than just a way of getting out a message for a business, a candidate or a cause. It can also act as a time capsule of sorts for the cultural ethos of a community. Ads can allow us to reminisce about the past and look at where we’ve been through the products we buy.
Presented here are a few of those memories from 1963 to 1973 when prices were cheaper, pant bottoms were wider and the Jewish community, like the nation at large, was undergoing major changes that would reshape how we shopped, voted, vacationed and spent our free time.
