For some teens, concerts are highlight of summer

For teenagers, the turning of the season from spring to summer means they have limitless options with their time. For some, vacations and summer jobs take over their Instagram feeds, while others choose to hit the open road and watch baseball games. But many define summer as an annual musical celebration, as famous artists travel the country to give concerts and meet their fans. With its bevy of stadiums and concert venues, St. Louis sees no shortage of these artists every year. And teens show up in full force.

In particular, this summer St. Louis hosted many concerts that attracted tenagers from across the region. High-profile artists such as Post Malone, G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage came to St. Louis to perform at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

Jacob Lefton, a junior at MICDS, attended a concert by G-Eazy and Lil Uzi Vert on Aug. 5. As an avid music fan, Lefton enjoys venues that make sure fans are well accommodated.

“I think the concert was really good. [It was] definitely one of the better ones that I’ve been to,” Lefton said. “I really [liked] how open it [was]. Some concerts you have no other option but to be uncomfortably close with the people around you. That’s never an issue at the amphitheatre.”

Greg Svirnovskiy, a freshman at Northwestern University and a co-editor of last year’s Ohr Chadash teen page, attended the Post Malone and 21 Savage concert June 8. He said seeing Post Malone was a dream come true.

“I’m pretty sure I was [freaking out] the entire time,” he said. “My friends were just poking me to see that I was still breathing normally.”

Svirnovskiy spent the weeks before the performance listening to much of the rapper’s music in order to know every lyric of his songs.

“It’s just so cool to listen to a performer when you have all their songs memorized,” he said. “We were just vibing to his beat for the entirety of the show.”
