Book Fest hosts ‘Vampire Kisses’ author

By Abigail Miller, Freshman, Ladue High School

Ellen Schreiber is a widely known author for her New York Times best-selling “Vampire Kisses.” This ongoing young adult series consists of eight books and has also been adapted into comic book form.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, Schreiber will come to St. Louis for a night of make-up tips, caricatures, contests, and a presentation about becoming a successful author.

“Once in a Full Moon” is a werewolf romance book that revolves around Celeste Parker, who lives in the town of Legend’s Run. Celeste lives an average teenage girl’s life. She has two best friends, and a great boyfriend named Nash. Things start to change when the intriguing Brandon Maddox moves to the small town.

Walking home one day, Celeste finds herself surrounded by a pack of wolves. When Brandon appears out of nowhere and saves her, she begins noticing strange things happening to Brandon and must figure out if some of her town’s famous legends could be real.

Schreiber says she didn’t always know she wanted to write vampire or werewolf based novels. At first, she studied to be an actress. Schreiber said she became interested in writing when she thought, “I can do this” after reading a young adult book. After trying to write for adults, she decided to shift her focus to young adult characters.

“I wanted to write books that I would have liked to read when I was a teen,” Schreiber said in a recent interview. “When I was a teen, I felt like I was forced to read books and it turned me off to reading. I wanted to write things that I would have wanted to read at that time.”
