LOOKING BACK • Temple Shaare Emeth was constructed in 1866 after members seceded from Temple B’nai El to form the first Reform Congregation in St. Louis.  This image was featured in slides from “The Roots of Jewish Heritage” lecture in 1984. Marilyn Heldman, Ph. D., and Walter Ehlrich, Ph. D. hosted the lecture in coordination with the exhibit, “Jewish Life in America: Fulfilling the American Dream” in the Lionverger Gallery in Forest Park.
