Congregation Shaare Emeth celebrated its 150th anniversary with a special re-consecration Shabbat Nov. 3. The evening marked the end of a yearlong renovation. At the beginning of the service, the Torahs were symbolically returned to the sanctuary and placed in the congregation’s new ark, constructed from glass and wood by Portland artist and Shaare Emeth member Ian Gilula. The newly re-consecrated sanctuary is named after Shaare Emeth’s Rabbi Emeritus Jeffrey Stiffman. Rabbi Rick Jacobs, President of the Union for Reform Judaism, was one of the guest speakers.  Above photo: Bill Motchan
