Leeore Levinstein, a Parkway Central graduate interning in Israel, has a startup that aims to address poverty and malnutrition in Haiti and is a finalist for a $10,000 grant.
The company, Vetiver Solutions, would use the plant, vetiver, to combat soil erosion and improve crop yields, and then process its leaves into a thread to be sold.
Levinstein, 21, is a pre-med student at University of Minnesota and is participating in Onward Israel, a Jewish Agency program in which teens and young adults do internships and service learning in the Jewish State.
CommonBond, a lender for students, is funding the Social Impact Award. Vetiver Solutions is one of nine finalists.
