At its annual dinner, scheduled for March 9 at the Clayton Plaza Hotel, Young Israel of St. Louis will recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of the congregation’s rabbi and his wife, Rabbi Moshe and Baila Shulman. The couple is preparing to make aliyah to Israel after 18 years of dedicated service to the St. Louis Jewish community.
Rabbi Shulman is a graduate of the Sha’alvim Rabbinic Kollel and the Sha’alvim Institute for Rabbinic and Educational Training and holds rabbinic ordination from the Jerusalem Chief Rabbinate. He is certified as a mohel and is a rabbinic advisor to the organ donor community. He also is a graduate of the Jerusalem College of Technology, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in computer software engineering, and Touro University, where he completed a master of arts degree in Jewish studies and education.
Rabbi Shulman has played a pivotal role in Jewish education, teaching at Bnei Akiva High Schools in Toronto and the Jewish Day Schools in St. Louis, and was the founding Dean of Yeshivat Kadimah High School.
Baila Shulman, originally from Sydney, Australia, is an educator and artist and has inspired students with her creativity and dedication at Epstein Hebrew Academy. Together, the Shulmans have raised six children. Their legacy in St. Louis is one of tireless dedication, steadfast leadership and an unwavering commitment to Jewish education and spiritual growth.
The annual dinner will recognize the Shulmans’ spiritual and educational guidance, learning and community service. “We are deeply grateful for Rabbi Moshe and Baila Shulman’s incredible contributions to our community,” said Max Oppenheimer, president of Young Israel. “Their leadership, devotion to our community, and love for Israel have enriched our congregation and left a lasting impact on Jewish life in St. Louis and this dinner is an opportunity for all of us to come together and show our appreciation.”
