Co-Presidents Susie Harris, Jean Payuk, and Ruth Cohen of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Jewish Aged presented a $10,000 challenge grant award to Covenant House/CHAI Apartments Executive Director, Joan Denison. The purpose of the grant was to help Covenant House/CHAI Apartments with its transportation needs. The grant, which was announced in the fall of 2012, was matched by gifts from residents, family members, and generous community supporters.

The Women’s Auxiliary plans to extend a 2013 challenge grant of $15,000 to Covenant/CHAI to help raise additional funds for transportation needs. “When we are able to match this new grant, we will be on our way to meeting our current and future residents’ transportation needs,” said Denison.

The Women’s Auxiliary for the Jewish Aged (formerly known as The Auxiliary JCA) made the decision to expand its outreach to help seniors in the community as well as continue to operate the Cedars gift shop, after the JCA’s sale of the Cedars. The mission of the Auxiliary was and continues to be to, “Supply items for the needs and comforts of the residents and to give service to the Jewish aged in the community.”
