Reimagining Revelation: Shavuot 2023

Join the Shaare Emeth clergy and musician-in-residence Lucy Greenbaum as we celebrate Shavuot, our annual commemoration of the giving of Torah at Mt. Sinai.
- 7-7:30pm – Dessert reception featuring Israeli wines, fine cheeses and delectable desserts.
- 7:30-8:30pm – Learning Sessions with Rabbis Bennett, Bearman and Levine.
- 8:30-9:15pm – Reimagining Revelation – a unique worship experience of poetry, prayer and song with Rabbi Goldstein, Cantor Warner and Lucy Greenbaum.

Shavuot Sinai Stroll

Longview Farm Park
Join us for a stroller-friendly park walk to celebrate the Jewish festival of Shavuot. On Shavuot, we celebrate receiving the Torah and the journey the Israelites took to make their way to Mount Sinai. We will wander in the “wilderness” of Longview Farm Park, where we will soak up the beauty of nature and make our way to finding our own creative Torah. We might even meet an animal friend or two along the way. Once we wrap up our adventures, we will gather for another super important Shavuot tradition: eating dairy treats with our favorite ice cream bars to share!
This holiday celebration is best enjoyed by our friends 8 and under and their families, but there is room and ice cream for everyone. Free and open to all!

6:30 p.m. Kolot Yisrael – Voices of UH Discussion “What’s a Mitzvah”
In common usage, a mitzvah often means “a good deed”—as in “Do a mitzvah and help Mrs. Goldstein with her packages.” This usage is quite old—the Jerusalem Talmud commonly refers to any charitable act as “the mitzvah.” The rabbis of the Talmud tell us that there are 613 mitzvot in the Torah. But are these 613 mitzvot, all charitable acts or “good deeds?” As we celebrate Shavuot and the gift of Torah, join us for a discussion of mitzvot and what they mean to us as Jews living in 2023.
