UPCOMING ALS BENEFIT TO HONOR LOCAL CHEF

“You Take the Cake,” a benefit for the Amyotropic Lateral Scleroris (ALS) division of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), will be held on Sunday, Jan. 6, at Congregation Shaare Emeth from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This special fundraising and public awareness event is in honor of local pastry chef Marla Scissors, who was diagnosed with ALS last spring. The event will feature a silent auction of the best pastries, pies and cakes, all donated from premiere restaurants and bakeries in the metropolitan region. In addition, there will be cookie decorating, a cakewalk, refreshments and musical entertainment. All proceeds raised will benefit the MDA-ALS division, which provides support to people afflicted with ALS and their families and raises money for research to find a cure for this devastating disease.

“We are thrilled to be honoring Marla with such a fun, festive event,” said Susan Lipsitz Cohen, one of the organizers of “You Take the Cake.” “Not only is Marla a well-known pastry chef in St. Louis, she is also a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a niece and an extraordinary friend.”
