United Hebrew Congregation has announced that Rabbi Brigitte S. Rosenberg will be installed as the fifth senior rabbi of the historic congregation at a special Friday evening Shabbat service at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11, followed by an Oneg Shabbat and additional celebratory activities throughout the weekend.

Rosenberg was named Senior Rabbi by the United Hebrew Board of Trustees last November and assumed her new responsibilities on July 1, taking over from Rabbi Emeritus Howard G. Kaplansky, who had served as Senior Rabbi of U.H. since 1990.

The congregation also welcomes Rabbi Kenneth E. Ehrlich who will participate in the installation service.  Rabbi Ehrlich, a native St. Louisan and former Associate Rabbi at United Hebrew (1979-1983), has served as Dean of the Cincinnati campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) since 1985 and will become Counselor to the President at HUC-JIR on Sept. 1.  Rabbi Ehrlich is the son of Sylvia and the late Dr. Walter Ehrlich, renowned St. Louis educator and historian.

Rabbi Rosenberg earned her Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters in 2000 and was ordained at HUC-JIR in 2001.  She served as Regional Director of Admissions and Recruitment for HUC-JIR until 2004, when she joined the United Hebrew clergy.

In addition to her work at U.H., Rabbi Rosenberg is the newly elected president of the St. Louis Rabbinical Association (SLRA) for 2011-2012 and serves on the boards of the Central Agency for Jewish Education (CAJE), Nishmah- The St. Louis Jewish Women’s Project and the St. Louis Hillel Foundation.  She has served as council member of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and is a founding committee member of Israel Bound, the St. Louis Teen Israel Experience.

Rabbi Rosenberg is married to H. Lee Rosenberg, Director of Youth Engagement at United Hebrew.  They have three children, Zoë, Joseph and Sadie.
