Tributes provide way to honor loved ones

In today’s edition, readers will find an opportunity to help keep the presses rolling at their Jewish community newspaper while recognizing the vital events that mark the lives of family and friends.
“We’d like to give our readers an opportunity to make donations to the Jewish Light commemorating lifecycle events,” said Judy Pass, chair of the Light’s Development Committee.
To that end, the Light is enclosing a tribute envelope in this week’s issue that allows Light patrons to donate to the organization in honor of a loved one’s birth, engagement, bar or bat mitzvah or other important happening.
“For example, graduations are coming up,” Pass said. “One could make a tribute in honor of a niece’s graduation or to remember someone’s special anniversary.”
Tributes can also be made in the event of an illness or death of a loved one. Standard tribute amounts include $10, $18, $36, $72, $100 or more.
“We’re suggesting certain levels but gifts of any amount are certainly welcome,” Pass said.
Pass said the Light has implemented the program in the past but it has not been done in recent years.
In addition to the tribute envelope inside, readers can also make donations by phone at 314-743-3600. Check, cash or major credit cards are accepted.
“Readers are always invited to donate online as well,” said Pass, “at www.stljewishlight.com.” Click on the donate now link to begin the process.
Those donating will see their tribute in print, as well as that in who’s honor it was given.
“We will be recognizing the names of all contributors in subsequent issues of the Light,” she said.
Pass said that dates for publication of the tributes have not been set but that the Light looks forward to honoring its donors.
“The tribute program is another way to support the work of the Jewish Light, which is to inform, inspire and connect the St. Louis Jewish community,” Pass said.
Tribute gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
