The J’s Family Center presents program for new moms

The Jewish Community Center’s Family Center at the Staenberg Family Complex has announced a new program, “Imanu: Our Mothers,” designed to support women along their motherhood journey.

Along with a six-week series that will run each fall and spring, called The Fourth Trimester, offering education, support, and community-building, Imanu will also offer lactation support in the J’s newly redesigned space. Lactation support is one-on-one breastfeeding support for new and expectant parents with a certified lactation counselor. Once a month, Imanu will offer a free Nursing Moms Group that welcomes all mothers.

The Fourth Trimester series, for moms with babies nine months and younger, will begin on Thursday, Sept. 20 and will run each Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon for six weeks, ending on Oct. 27. Topics will range from caring for your newborn, to taking care of yourself and adjusting to life with a new baby. The series is free and led by Leah Frankel, a licensed clinical social worker and certified lactation counselor.

The Nursing Moms Group will be held on the last Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon at the Staenberg Family Complex. The group is free and walk-ins are welcome. Upcoming dates are: Aug. 28, Sept. 25, Oct. 30 and Nov. 27.

Lactation counseling services are individually scheduled. Services include prenatal or postpartum education and support, as well as the option to buy a discounted package for the expectant or new mom. Services may be purchased as a gift. New, and new again, mothers can benefit from the caring, one-on-one support that is designed to meet each mother’s needs and desires for breastfeeding her baby.
