Temple Israel hosting bar/bat mitzvah cotillion program

Temple Israel is hosting its annual bar/bat mitzvah cotillion program for St. Louis area sixth-grade students, which aims to educate both Jewish and non-Jewish teens in a fun and exciting way about the traditions, etiquette, dance moves, music and social interaction that they’ll experience either having or attending a bar or bat mitzvah. The program is comprised of four sessions that delve into different aspects of the service and celebration, and concludes with a ‘Mock Mitzvah’ party where the group can experience a bar/bat mitzvah first-hand while showing off their new etiquette and social skills, as well as trendy and traditional dance moves.

The program is provided in partnership with Utopia Entertainment, which provides unique, interactive entertainment experiences at bar and bat mitzvah celebrations and special events. Utopia’s DJ and party motivators will lead all four sessions in Temple Israel’s Isserman Auditorium, which will be set up to look and feel like an actual bar/bat mitzvah service and party.

Bar/bat mitzvah cotillion will be held on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Temple Israel on four Sundays: Jan. 22 and 29, and Feb. 12 and 26.

The registration fee is $99 per student and includes all four sessions, snacks, and prizes. Registration and payment is available online at ti-stl.org/Cotillion and will remain open until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. Temple Israel is located at #1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive in Creve Coeur, near the intersection of Ladue and Spoede roads.
