Temple Israel ends 125th anniversary year with Birthday Bash Weekend

Congregation Temple Israel is marking the conclusion of its yearlong 125th anniversary commemoration with a Birthday Bash Weekend Nov. 2-3. The community is invited to participate.

The first event will be a “Voices of the Future” family Shabbat on Friday, Nov. 2, in the Gall Family Sanctuary at Temple Israel, 1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Dr. in Creve Coeur. The evening will begin with pre-oneg appetizers at 6 p.m.  A creative, musical worship experience for all ages will follow at 6:30 p.m. Students from Temple Israel’s Deutsch Early Childhood Center and religious school will participate in the service. A special family-friendly birthday celebration, complete with birthday treats and activities, will follow the service. Shabbat birthday celebration co-chairs are Evie Bernstein, Hui Hua Bernstein and Karen (Bernstein) Comensky.

The celebration will continue with a Birthday Bash at Westwood Country Club, 11801 Conway Road, on Saturday, Nov. 3. This musical evening will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. Dinner stations offering an eclectic assortment of international cuisine will open at 7:30 p.m. There will be entertainment throughout the evening, including the Ladue Strolling Strings, pianist Byron Brownstein, magician Brent Loewenstein and the Harmony Trio.  Photographer Lisa Mandel will be providing green screen photography for guests. The cost to attend the Birthday Bash is $125 per person. The RSVP deadline is Oct. 15. Birthday Bash Committee co-chairs are Natalie Handelman, Judy Harris and Marcia Pass.

Carol Cohen and Marcie Kalina have served as the co-chairs of Temple Israel’s 125th anniversary year of celebration.
