Temple Emanuel hires director of education

Temple Emanuel has named Subie Banaszynski as the congregation’s director of education. She will assume the role at the conclusion of the current religious school year.

Banaszynski comes to Temple Emanuel after serving as director of the North American Federation of Temple Youth. During her seven years with NFTY (two as director), she consulted with more than 100 congregations on teen issues and programming, and mentored teens, teaching them leadership skills.

“I am delighted that Subie will be joining our congregational family,” said Elizabeth Hersh, Senior rabbi at Temple Emanuel.

“She brings tenured experience on every level of education that will elevate our programs to new, distinct and exciting levels, and help bring about our vision of a modern, family-oriented, inter-generational educational experience.”

Temple Emanuel President Steve Strauss said that the small Reform congregation is in a “unique position to educate and engage the next generation of temple and community leadership by throwing out the ‘cookie cutter’ educational model and tailoring our Jewish education to our families.”

The Religious School will continue to use the Chai Curriculum in its classrooms. But under Banaszynski’s guidance, Temple Emanuel officials plans to broaden its classroom approach to include experiential learning and hands-on activities that more closely match current education theory and practice.
