Teams gear up for challenge of brains and brawn at MANIA
Published April 27, 2011
On Saturday, May 14 the Jewish Community Center Staenberg Family Complex will host MANIA, a unique competition pitting teams of 10 against each other in competitions of brains and brawn. Competitors will face fun challenges such as relay races and hula hoop throw downs, and will have the opportunity to win a significant check for the nonprofit organization of their choice.
MANIA is co-chaired by Stacy and Eli Abeles along with Rob Bertman. While the co-chairs have played a significant role in shaping the event, even they will be surprised by what challenges await at MANIA. None of the 10 challenges will be revealed to teams until the night of the competition.
It is recommended that participants dress in workout attire and be ready for anything from feats of strength to tactical tests. Teams will be required to exhibit teamwork, resourcefulness, determination and the ability to make decisions on the fly with no looking back.
Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. and MANIA runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, two drinks and an event T-shirt. Babysitting is available for $15 per child. RSVPs required. All participants must be 21 or older.
The funds raised from MANIA will not only help the winning teams’ nonprofits, but also support the programs and services of the JCC. For more information or to RSVP, visit www.jccstl.com or call 314-442-3109. Training tips and additional information is also available via the MANIA Facebook page, which is accessible from the JCC’s website.
