“In Our Own Hand: the Hidden Story of the Jewish Brigade in World War II,” part of the Sandra and Mendel Rosenberg St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center free film series, will screen at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, at the HMLC in the Jewish Federation Kopolow Building. “Ivan and Abraham,” which was scheduled to be screened, has been postponed until 2011.
“In Our Own Hand,” a stirring documentary, the participants themselves tell the story of the British Jewish Brigade – the only all-Jewish fighting unit – who fought against the Nazis in the final days of WWII. After the War, they engineered the illegal movement of Holocaust Survivors to Palestine and, in 1948, Brigade veterans helped organize and lead the fledgling Israel Defense Forces in the War of Independence. Directed by Chuck Olin, this 1998 film has a running time of 85 minutes.
Introductory remarks will be provided by Daniel A. Reich, curator and director of Education, St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center. The program is free; reservations are not required. For additional information, call 314-442-3714 or email [email protected].
