Local Jewish agencies are sponsoring a rally in support of human rights in Iran to coincide with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.
The “Stand for Freedom in Iran Rally ” takes place at noon Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Jewish Federation Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur.
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) is coordinating the rally, which is cosponsored by American Jewish Committee, American Jewish Congress, Hadassah, JCC, St. Louis Hillel and NCJW, with the support of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.
An email from the JCRC states the rally will serve as a call to Iranian leaders for:
* An end to limitations on freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and freedom of the press
* Immediate cessation of human rights abuses, the release of demonstrators from prisons and protection for minority communities
* Full compliance and cooperation by Iran with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Security Council resolutions.
* End to incitement to genocide and support for terrorism.
