Pete Pozefsky of Creve Coeur, a volunteer with Jewish Federation of St. Louis’ Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC), was named a finalist for the 2013 Georgia Frontiere Community Quarterback Award. Finalists exemplify leadership, dedication and a commitment to improving the St. Louis bi-state area through volunteerism.

Pozefsky has volunteered for six years with St. Louis NORC, a non-sectarian program that supports the healthy aging of seniors in their homes. Pozefsky, an engineer scientist/structural engineer at Boeing, helps NORC members with home repairs, teaches computer use, and has installed and repaired computers for members.

NORC Volunteer Coordinator Roberta Gartenberg estimates that he has spent more than 1,300 hours of his time helping NORC members live a better quality of life and has saved them more than $26,500 with his repairs. “Pete will take on any task, often on very short notice,” says Gartenberg. She notes that he has a life-changing impact on many members’ lives, providing them with not only household help, but also comfort and care. “When Pete provides a household or computer repair, he also provides a kind heart and an ear for listening.”

In addition to St. Louis NORC, Pozefsky also volunteers with BJC Hospice and Rebuilding Together. 

A luncheon was held Nov. 22 to honor the Community Quarterback volunteers and award money to the agencies they represent.
