The St. Louis Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC), a program that supports the healthy aging of older adults in their homes, received a $2,750 grant from the Women’s Auxiliary for the Jewish Aged to support its Socialization for Healthy Engagement program.

The Socialization for Healthy Engagement program aims to support social interaction, because meaningful engagement is important to physical health and living a long life. The grant will be used to fund three events NORC is planning in 2013 to give older adults a chance to meet new people, connect with those from their past, and enjoy entertainment. The events include:

• Banjos and Brass, an evening musical performance on May 2 for a community-wide older adult audience;

• Summer Celebration, a June party welcoming the arrival of summer for community older adults;

• 90s Celebration of Life, a birthday party for all the 90+ year old residents living in the NORC service area and their families.
