More good news for the St. Louis kosher community: On Wednesday, Aug. 14, after the end of Tisha B’av, St. Louis’ newest kosher deli, Nate’s Kosher Deli, will officially add deli take-out service. The take-out menu will be limited to eight items, according to owner-operator Avi Rosenberg.
“I’ll have four hot items and four cold items,” Rosenberg said. “The hot items will include the killer pastrami sandwich, a Reuben sandwich, a brisket sandwich and a corned beef sandwich.”
The pastrami, which will be prepared using the original Kohn’s recipe, is a labor-intensive dish, as is corned beef.
“There’s more time that goes into making those because there’s pickling,” Rosenberg said. “You have to let it marinate, and there are other things that go into it. And then, it tastes amazing.”
The Shabbat takeout menu is still a work in progress, Rosenberg said. He will begin by offering a menu similar to Kohn’s but using some of his own recipes.
“I have a chef coming in too, and hopefully after the summer, I’m going to change things up a little bit,” he said.
More good news! Challah
Giti Fredman, known for her challah-baking workshops and business “Just Bake It!” is bringing her expertise and passion for baking to Nate’s.
Fredman has moved her challah production into Nate’s parve bakery where she will offer her baked goods just in time for Shabbat each week. On the menu will be her signature challah, challah rolls, chocolate babka, cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookie sticks, sprinkle cookie sticks and potato kugel. As she continues to settle into Nate’s, Fredman plans to expand her offerings even further, bringing more of her unique baked goods to the deli’s customers.
