The 13th annual St. Louis Jewish Community Blood Drive at Young Israel synagogue will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. In conjunction with the blood drive, there will be a drive to benefit the Harvey Korblum Jewish Food Pantry. Young Israel is located at 8101 Delmar Blvd. in University City.

Organizers of the drive said supplies of blood and blood products are traditionally low at this time of the year due to poor weather, illness and holidays, while many cancer patients, surgical patients and trauma patients require blood transfusions.

In addition, organizers said the Kornblum food pantry has seen increases in the number of families relying on it. Non-perishable items such as canned goods, pasta or peanut butter are needed.

The blood drive is open to anyone 17 or older or 16 with parental permission. Walk-ins are welcome but  appointments have priority.

To make an appointment please visit redcross.org and use code YIJS or call 1-800-Red-Cross.
