The St. Louis International Film Festival will host the premiere of “Before You,” a short film capturing the experience of abortion, a deeply personal yet increasingly politicized topic. The screening will take place on Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m., at the Chase Park Plaza Cinemas.
Based on true events, “Before You,” tells the intimate story of a couple’s euphoric pregnancy that takes an unforeseen turn when a medical diagnosis forces them to confront the agonizing necessity of an abortion – a procedure currently restricted or banned in 21 states. This film offers an honest and emotional exploration of an issue that many face in silence and aims to foster a greater understanding of the impact of these restrictions.
Following the screening of “Before You,” audiences will also have the opportunity to watch the feature film “Lady Parts.” A panel discussion moderated by Missouri’s reproductive rights journalist, Anna Spoerre, will follow. The conversation will bring together the filmmakers Lauren Merage, Nancy Boyd and Bonnie Gross, alongside local women’s health advocates Margot Riphagen from Planned Parenthood Great Rivers and Mallory Schwarz from Abortion Action Missouri. Together, they’ll explore the current national landscape of women’s health and healthcare in the United States and how storytelling can empower narratives and share essential information.
