St. Louis Hillel to sell portion of property

Forsyth School has purchased the eastern portion of the St. Louis Hillel property at 6252 Forsyth Boulevard for an undisclosed amount, according to a joint statement issued this week by Forsyth School and St. Louis Hillel at Washington University.  St. Louis Hillel is Forsyth School’s immediate western neighbor on Forsyth Boulevard across from the Danforth Campus of Washington University.

“This is a tremendous result.  It’s the outcome of sound strategic planning at both institutions and some good luck in terms of timing,” said Alan Bornstein, chairman of the St. Louis Hillel Board of Directors.

St. Louis Hillel intends to use a portion of the sale proceeds as seed capital for an extensive renovation of its existing property at 6300 Forsyth Boulevard and to bolster its programming and endowment.

“This transaction is a critical step toward the future of St. Louis Hillel,” added Jacqueline Ulin Levey, St. Louis Hillel President & CEO.   “The investment in our existing facility and organization will have a lasting impact on the lives of countless Jewish students at Washington University and other colleges and universities throughout St. Louis.”

Forsyth School intends to incorporate the additional land into its recently completed facilities master plan.  “The acquisition of the Hillel property will allow Forsyth to maintain its unique educational setting, while providing our campus and our program with needed flexibility and breathing room,” said Rob Klahr, Forsyth Board President. “This is an important step towards addressing our facilities master plan that will allow us to fulfill our mission for years to come.”

The school does not intend to increase its enrollment.
