St. Louis Hillel basketball team falls in quarterfinals at national tournament

Defending their national title, the St. Louis Hillel championship men’s basketball team lost in the quarterfinal round of play in a close game against Yeshiva University. The Second Annual National Hillel Basketball Tournament was held April 21-22 in Maryland.
The seven-man St. Louis Hillel team included two returning players from last year’s championship run, Jake LaMountain and Sam Propis (team coach), as well as senior Noam Liran, junior Tomer Sabo, sophomore Ryan Charnov and freshmen Jason Silberman and Aaron Cohn. The team competed against more than 20 teams.
The team received a bye the first round of tournament play, after going undefeated in pool play (3-0). They defeated Columbia University before losing to Yeshiva University in the quarterfinal match. The Yeshiva University team went on to win the championship title.
The annual tournament is hosted by the University of Maryland.
