HMLC marks Tish B'Av

Hiding and Seeking: Faith and Tolerance After the Holocaust, an award-winning documentary commemorating Tisha B’Av (the ninth day of the month of Av, a traditional day of mourning), will be presented at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, in the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center Theater, Federation Kopolow Building. Rabbi Ze’ev Smason of Nusach Hari – B’nai Zion Congregation will lead a discussion following the screening. The program is free and open to the public. For information, call 314-442-3714.

Library focuses on Jewish lit

The University City Public Library will host a free reading and discussion series called “Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature — Identity and Imagination.” The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka will be discussed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. Help needed for picnic

Volunteers are needed at Spanish Lake Park in north St. Louis County off Bellefontaine Road, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 20 to help at the picnic for the 2,001 families that were evacuated to St. Louis after Hurricane Katrina. Judaism class to be offered

The Midwest Council, Union for Reform Judaism, and the Association of Reform Rabbis of Greater St. Louis will offer an Introduction to Judaism class from 7-9 p.m. each Tuesday beginning Sept. 5 and ending Dec. 19. The class will meet at Reform congregations. In addition, a one-day, seven-hour Hebrew Marathon will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27 to provide basic Hebrew reading skills. The cost is $210 per person or $235 per couple for members of local congregations and $260 per person or $285 per couple for non-members.
