SSDS plans scholarship dinner

Solomon Schechter Day School will mark its 30th anniversary with its Annual Scholarship Dinner, “Torah L’Dor V’Dor” on Sunday, May 22.

The school will recognize distinguished honoree Bill Solomon during the event, along with the school’s 14 board presidents and a group of community rabbis who have inspired students and their families.

Solomon first became involved with Solomon Schechter Day School when he noticed the regular attendance of SSDS students at his synagogue, Brith Sholom Kneseth Israel. “I wondered how they had become so comfortable and competent at such a young age. It was really inspiring. When I discovered that they attended SSDS, I decided to get involved and support the work that the school was doing,” Solomon recalled. Perpetuating Jewish continuity through his commitment to Jewish education is one of Solomon’s passions, said Cyndee Levy, event co-chair. “We are fortunate to have such an outstanding role model in our community,” she said. “Bill has touched the lives of so many students in our school through his generous and humble philanthropy.”

Levy said during the event, 14 SSDS past presidents will be recognized for their “enduring passion and tireless promotion of Jewish education and SSDS” with the

Leo I. Mirowitz Distinguished Service Award. In addition, the Solomon Schechter community will also honor Rabbis Mark Fasman, Bernard Lipnick, Mordecai Miller, Carnie Shalom Rose, Zalman Stein and Ephraim Zimand for the inspiration that they have provided to Schechter children and their families. The Yad Hazakah Award pays tribute to their wisdom and guidance.

The community is invited to join in celebration. Tributes will be recognized in the event ad book. The event will benefit the Solomon Schechter Day School Scholarship Fund.

The event takes place at B’nai Amoona, 324 South Mason Road. Seating for the Middle Eastern buffet dinner will take place at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. To RSVP or for more information, contact Martha Brodsky at 314-576-6177 or [email protected]. Dietary laws observed.
