Spiritual support group for Jews with mental illness

Achraiyut, a support group for Jewish persons with a mental illness, will be meeting Monday, Feb. 7 at Congregation Neve Shalom, 1240 Dautel Lane in Creve Coeur. In Hebrew, Achraiyut means “to assume responsibility.” The group is designed for those who have taken the first step toward responsibility by accepting their mental illness and receiving treatment to achieve the greatest possible state of wellness. The group will continue to meet monthly, on the first Monday of each month from 7:15 to 9 p.m. There is no charge for attending the meetings. Members bring their experience of what has helped them deal with their illness. It is not a therapy group, but rather a support group that is based on encouragement and positive feedback.  For more information, call 314-994-1542.  Achraiyut is an offshoot of JAMI-STL, a Jewish initiative that has been created to provide support and services for Jewish persons with mental illness and their families.
