SMJCS workshop offers parents recipe for healthy choices

Chef Kiersten Firquain offers samples of veggie quinoa to participants at last year’s All the Right Ingredients, a free parenting workshop offered May 1 by Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School.

Each day, children make choices that affect their health, their relationships, their self-confidence and ultimately their success in school. Parents are invited to learn how they can help their children develop a perfect blend of healthy habits at a workshop from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1 at Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, 348 South Mason Road.

The workshop will include:

  • Healthy cooking demonstrations using staples from your pantry: Chef Kiersten Firquain (Bistro Kids) and Kathy Mora
  • Wired World: Raising well-balanced kinds in a high-tech world: Andy Pomerantz, Dr. Andy Zuckerman and Cheryl Maayan
  • How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep…and why kids and their grownups need one: Dr. Terri Riutcel and Alyson Aviv
  • Creative Minds: How the arts make kids smarter: Rick Recht and Cheryl Maayan
  • A taste-test of healthy snacks.

The workshop is presented in partnership by Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School and Bistro Kids farm-to-school lunch program as a service to the community. The program is offered free of charge. Participants will leave with a toolkit of recipes, ideas and great giveaways.
