Shaare Zedek holds blood drive honor of Rabbi Fasman

Shaare Zedek Synagogue will sponsor a blood drive in honor of Rabbi Mark Fasman from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the congregation’s Leve Auditorium, 829 N. Hanley Road in University City.
The congregation planned the American Red Cross Blood Drive in honor of Fasman, the congregation’s rabbi, who has been undergoing treatment for lymphoma for the past year – requiring more than 20 blood transfusions.
“Members of Shaare Zedek wanted to help or respond in some way,” said Gary Kodner, Past President of Shaare Zedek. “So we decided to encourage people to give blood to the Red Cross,” said Kodner, also a Vice President of the Jewish Light.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old in most states (or 16 with parental consent if allowed by state law); donors should be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds (additional weight requirements apply for donors 18 years old and younger and all high school donors).
Additional requirements apply for double red cell donors.
For a full list of requirements, visit www.redcrossblood.org and click on “Donating Blood.” Make an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code: ShaareZedek or contact Nancy in the Shaare Zedek office at 314-727-1747 or email [email protected]. Donors must bring a valid photo ID.
