Shaare Emeth gala to honor Lee Bohm and family, Allen and Ronnie Brockman

Congregation Shaare Emeth will honor Lee Bohm and family and Allen and Ronnie Brockman at its annual Heart & Soul Gala on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the DoubleTree Hotel, located at 16625 Swingley Ridge Road in Chesterfield.  “From Generation to Generation” is this year’s theme for the event, which will support the congregation’s mission of education, spiritual practice, social justice and outreach.

The 2014 Heart and Soul honorees, Lee Bohm and her family, will be presented the L’dor Va’dor (Generation to Generation) Award, which celebrates the passion and values of congregants who impact the Jewish and secular communities. Allen and Ronnie Brockman will be presented the Tzedek (Righteous Action) Award, which honors congregants whose lives exemplify the Jewish value of tzedek with acts of tzedakah and compassion.

The Bohms are leading community activists, philanthropists and volunteers. Lee and her late husband, Milford, joined Shaare Emeth in 1952. She has been active with and served on the boards of COCA, Community House Management Corporation, Congregation Shaare Emeth, Dance St. Louis, Jewish Federation, Jewish Family & Children’s Services, the Repertory Theatre and St. Louis Symphony. In 1997, the Bohms established an endowment to care for the grounds of Congregation Shaare Emeth and named the Bohm Family Campus in honor of Milford’s parents, Joseph and Aranka.  Sons David and Robert and their spouses, Joan and Sue respectively, also are being honored.

The Brockmans are founders of Camp Rainbow, a free camping experience for children living with or surviving cancer and other blood-relating illnesses, and played a vital role in establishing Friends of Kids with Cancer and KidSmart. The Brockmans served many roles at Shaare Emeth over 30 years. Ronnie was the youth director and family educator, and for 18 years the program director before retiring in 2012. Allen presently serves on the international Children’s Oncology Camping Association board. Through volunteerism, serving on boards and their compassion for underserved people, the Brockmans impact many community organizations.  In 2014, they received the Harvard Club of St. Louis Community Service Award.

“It is a great privilege to honor the Bohm and Brockman families,” says Congregation Shaare Emeth’s Senior Rabbi Jim Bennett. “They are role models and individuals who symbolize the very best values of our congregation as they volunteer their time, energy and resources to help us fulfill our mission and make our world a better place.”

The gala will feature musician and entertainer Dawn Weber and a lively raffle. Tickets are $180 per person. For reservations or sponsorship opportunities, contact Rosalie Stein at [email protected] or call 314-569-0010.
