Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School plans open house
Published November 2, 2011
Young families are invited for a taste of Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.
The school’s Open House will include mini-lessons in classrooms, a panel of current students and alumni, and a free Rick Recht concert. While families are checking out the school’s hands-on curriculum, their children will be paired with a fifth grader or alumnus who will be their buddy for the hour of enrichment activities.
Adults and children will have opportunities to taste foods prepared by the school’s Farm-2-School lunch program that serves healthy lunches using foods that are locally grown or organic.
Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School is St. Louis’ first pluralistic Jewish independent school, bringing together the strengths of Saul Mirowitz Day School – RJA and Solomon Schechter Day School. Next August, the student bodies of both schools will go “back to school” together in a contemporary school building on the corner of Conway and Mason Roads. RJA’s head of school, Cheryl Maayan, will be the head of the merged school, and will deliver a constructivist curriculum to students in grades K-8.
“I take my role seriously as guardian of every student’s childhood – and I am enthusiastic about the opportunity that awaits each of them,” says Maayan. “A pluralistic school for the community, with its additional students and resources, will be able to offer an experience that is richer, stronger and more profound than either school could offer on its own. And we know by the applications already coming in that the community agrees.”
The school anticipates an enrollment of 175 students with two classes per grade. Class sizes will remain small, with no more than 15 students per classroom teacher.
SMJCS is now accepting applications for grades K-8. For more information or to RSVP to Open House, contact Patty Bloom, Director of Admissions, at 314-569-2692 or by email at [email protected].
