Rabbi Waxman to speak in area

Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community welcomes Rabbi Deborah Waxman of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia as the congregation inaugurates its Scholar-in-Residence program the weekend of Feb. 9-10.

Rabbi Waxman and Rabbi Ari Vernon of Shir Hadash will co-lead Shabbat morning services, beginning at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Hillel building, 6300 Forsyth.

Rabbi Waxman’s topic will be “A Reconstructionist Approach to Community-Building: Let Them Make Me a Sanctuary that I May Dwell Among Them.” Rabbi Waxman will frame part one of the topic as a Torah study and discussion during the Torah service, and will continue with part two at the “Lunch and Learn” following services.

On Sunday, Feb. 10 Rabbi Waxman will be the keynote speaker at the Super Sunday of Jewish Learning, addressing “Jewish Peoplehood and Rugged Individualism Among American Jews: Creating a ‘We-Feeling.'”

Super Sunday, held at the Carlyn H. Wohl Building of the JCC, is sponsored by the St. Louis Rabbinical Association, CAJE, and the JCC. Rabbi Waxman’s talk at Super Sunday is sponsored by Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community.
