New meal times announced for JCC Nutrition program

The Jewish Community Center’s (JCC) Senior Meals Program has changed its evening meal times to 5-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4:30 – 5 p.m. on Friday. Traditional Shabbat dinners begin on Friday at 4:30 p.m. until Daylight Savings Time begins in March. Meals are served at the Covenant House dining area, located on the I.E. Millstone Campus, off Schuetz Road near Lindbergh Blvd. The Senior Meals Program serves hot, kosher meals to individuals 60 years of age and older in the community.

The time change comes as a result of a recent survey completed by over 100 program participants. The survey revealed that only 58 percent of respondents were satisfied with the mealtime. In comparison, over 75 percent of those surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality and quantity of food, while over 80 percent enjoyed the after-meal activities.

The JCC’s Nutrition Program provides the Senior Meal Program to the greater St. Louis community and is partially funded by the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA) and the St. Louis Jewish Federation. Meals have a suggested voluntary contribution fee of $3.50. Along with meals, several nights throughout the month, entertainment and speakers are provided for participants. This may include discussion groups, comedy skits, and birthday parties to presentations on health/wellness and medical screenings. Volunteer opportunities are also available.
