Picture this: A party bus full of Jewish teens pulling up to Rec Hall in St. Charles, music blasting, laughter spilling out the doors and the energy unmistakably full of something new—new friendships, new beginnings and a new BBYO year.
That’s the vision behind the “BBYO party bus kickoff,” a back-to-school event designed to bring together more than 100 Jewish teens from across the St. Louis area. For Gabe Raskin, regional director of BBYO St. Louis Council, it’s more than just a fun night out—it’s a way to build belonging.

A kickoff with energy and intention
“We were looking for something one of a kind that showcased the teens’ excitement,” Raskin said. “The idea of a party bus kept coming up in our brainstorming. As for Rec Hall—it’s the perfect mix of unique games and hanging out.”
The event is open to both BBYO members and Jewish teens who may be new to the organization. It’s a welcoming, low-pressure environment where teens can be social, meet new people and get a taste of what BBYO is all about.
“I want every teen feeling like they’ve made at least one new friend,” Raskin said. “Whether it’s someone they kind of know from school or someone entirely new, I hope this becomes a favorite memory.”
Growing leadership and stronger connections
According to Raskin, this kickoff also reflects how BBYO St. Louis is evolving. “Our leadership is growing and so is our programming. The teens are leveling up and I’m here to support them every step of the way.”

At its core, the BBYO party bus kickoff is about creating space for Jewish teens to feel connected, supported and proud. “BBYO is about brotherhood, sisterhood—siblinghood,” Raskin said. “We’re coming together as one giant family and everyone should know they have a place here if they want to belong.”
