A proposed Missouri senate resolution commending Israel as a friend of the state will be the subject of a hearing at the capitol at 10:30 a.m. on Weds., April 2. Senate Resolution 156 recognizes the longstanding mutually beneficial relationship between Israel and Missouri.
The proposed resolution notes that U.S. President Harry S. Truman was the first world leader to officially recognize Israel as a legitimate Jewish state 11 minutes after its creation. It also notes that the resolution supports U.S. President Donald Trump who recognized Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel last December.
The hearing before the senate joint rules, resolutions and ethics committee will be held on the 3rd floor senate lounge. Any individual or organization may testify in person supporting or opposing the resolution.
Senator Jill Carter, R-Jasper and Newton, is the resolution’s sponsor. Carter told the Jewish Light Missouri’s relationship with Israel has translated into positive economic results.
“Eagle Picher, a Missouri defense and aerospace firm, aligns with Israel’s advanced defense sector, boosting our state’s role in national security and opening doors for jobs,” Carter said. “Sigma-Aldrich, now part of MilliporeSigma, has facilities in Israel, tying Missouri to the global life sciences chain and advancing pharmaceuticals and biotech for both regions. These are facts, not fluff.”
